New Leadership Installed at the 41st Gala,

Shalonda Dawkins was sworn in as Chairman of the board for the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the 41st Annual Awards Gala. Harris County Justice of the Peace, Joe Stephens performed the ceremony. Additionally, other officers and directors took the oath that evening pledging to “promote business growth and quality of life in the North Channel Area.”

Dawkins is Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of United Community, a $104 million Credit Union located in Houston, TX. In this role, she oversees all marketing, retail sales and lending initiatives for the credit union.

Dawkins has over 15 years of management experience in financial institutions. Before joining United Community, she served in the Business Development department at Smart Financial Credit Union and also as a Corporate Marketing Officer for Comerica Bank. Before entering the financial services industry, she gained experience in marketing through her employment at a local advertising agency as well as a direct marketing firm. 

Dawkins is a graduate of Houston Baptist University where she earned Bachelors of Arts degrees in both Marketing and Psychology. She has also earned a Masters of Business Administration from the Texas A&M University system.

Dawkins is currently an advisory board member for the Credit Union National Association’s Marketing and Business Development Council, as well as an Executive Committee Member for Cornerstones Marketing and Business Development Council. In recent years, she has been awarded several CUNA Diamond Awards for marketing campaigns and publications developed at United Community.

Dawkins is very active in the community and currently represents United Community in a number of roles on local community service boards. She is presently a board member of both the Channelview ISD and Sheldon ISD Education Foundations, the Galena Park ISD District Planning Committee and the Southeast Harris County Communities in Schools initiative.
