The North Channel Area is a Great Place to Call Home!
The North Channel area has much to offer business and industry, as well as to residents. Within its approximately 158 square miles, over 200,000 of the greater Houston area’s three million plus residents live. Continued growth is projected for the next five years and beyond. The estimated population for 2010 is over 220,000. The area is unique in that it offers a suburban setting where major industry, commercial concerns, retail establishments, and bedroom communities flourish. Due to its close proximity to the Port of Houston and the resulting exceptional rail, highway, water and air transportation, the area offers business a smooth connection to local, regional and international markets. Businesses in the area range from manufacturing firms, chemical processing and refining entities, specialty valve manufacturers, major health care facilities, small business concerns, and major retail operations. The area supplies plentiful labor in all skill levels and specialties. Pro-business governments and a supportive population enhance business growth.
A large amount of land exists for industrial and commercial development. Many sites are in unincorporated areas and offer lower tax rates. Within city limits, business-friendly governments seek to work with existing business and industry, and to provide an atmosphere to encourage new business start-ups or relocations. Families moving into the area find housing in every price range, and quality schools staffed by competent, caring professional educators. Area entertainment opportunities include excellent dining, a 24-screen multiplex cinema, two 18-hole golf courses, parks and water sports. Excellent facilities and leagues exist for youth sports, including soccer, football, baseball, softball and basketball. The new 230-acre Gene Green Park opened in August and boasts an amphitheater, ball courts and fields, a BMX bike trail, and a skate park among its many amenities.
A quality YMCA program also serves the area. Harris County Precinct 2 provides the area with community centers that offer a wide-range of planned events for youth, senior citizens and area residents. The North Shore Rotary Pavilion offers an open-air, covered facility for groups up to 5,000.

Who and Where We Are
Individual communities within the North Channel area are located in Harris County, Texas and include all of the unincorporated areas of Sheldon, Channelview, North Shore, and part of Humble. We also serve the cities of Galena Park and Jacinto City, and a small portion of the City of Houston.
North Channel area residents take pride in their caring community coupled with big-city conveniences. Commuting to downtown Houston for business or entertainment takes fewer than 20 minutes, less time than from any other section of Harris County. Minute Maid Park, home of the 2005 National League Champion Houston Astros, is located east of downtown. The Toyota Center, home of the Rockets and Aeros, as well as the George R. Brown Convention Center are also located on the east side of Houston. All these venues are most easily accessed from the communities that make up the North Channel area. Reliant Stadium, site of Houston Texans home games and the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo; and Reliant Arena, home of the WNBA Houston Comets, are convenient to the North Channel area as well.
The Harris County Toll Road system connects the North Channel area with the entire greater Houston area, providing convenient access to other major employment, entertainment and retail destinations.
Within the North Channel area, commercial growth has kept pace with overall community growth, as evidenced by numerous new shopping opportunities ranging from large department and grocery stores to small local merchants. The benefit to area citizens is a diverse retail environment providing unlimited goods and services to the North Channel community.
Educational opportunities serve as a major drawing card for families and individuals seeking to provide the very best for themselves and their children. The area includes Galena Park ISD, Channelview ISD and Sheldon ISD, as well as parts of Humble and Houston ISDs. Recently approved bond issues have provided, or will provide, new facilities in each of these districts. Achievement on standardized tests by area students has kept pace or exceeded that of other area school districts. Athletic teams and individual area athletes continue to win championships and receive recognition for their accomplishments. Private education options include Holy Trinity Episcopal School, and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School.
San Jacinto College North and Houston Community College provide quality instruction in degree programs and continuing education classes. Texas School of Business provides vocational and technical training.
